Jan. 21st, 2024 10:45 amName- Wrythin Wyrm - Tav is an embarrassing nickname he's stuck with. It stands for The Arcane Visionary.
Canon point- Act 1
Age- 150
Appearence:
Face. Full body. He has a tattoo of a rose on his neck.
History:
Wrythin is a High Elf whose lineage is of no special note. He, however, was an obvious genius from a young age. Amongst his ordinary family, he looked all the more incredible. He was soon apprenticed to a wizard, at the tender age of 75, who took him to Baldur's Gate, and his head continued to swell. This increasingly irked his master and his two fellow apprentices, especially when he began to call himself The Arcane Visionary (a cringy, self-assigned title suitable for an edgy teen), shortened to T.A.V. His studies focused on divination, seeking out his no-doubt world-changing destiny before it happened. Eventually, in an attempt to teach him some humility, he was sent with one of his fellow apprentices on a task far too dangerous for him but supposedly comfortable for his senior. Unfortunately, it proved too much for them both, and a nasty encounter with a Nothic put serious fear into him. Wrythin got away with a nasty scar and a sudden lack of ambition. His master kicked him out, and he started using his skills for quietly mundane magical jobs. The name stuck, though.
And then a big squid snatched him up to put a worm in his brain, and in a roundabout way, it's the best thing that has ever happened to him. While not happy about it, he's coming into his own at last- neither arrogant nor a waste of talent. Leadership suits him, and he naturally took charge of the ragtag group of be-wormed folks on their quest to get dewormed.
He pretends he knows what he's doing, and was just some generic adventurer. And isn't basically a wizard NEET.
Personality-
Tav tries to live his life by logic as much as possible, analysing situations and applying whatever seems to be the smartest choice at any given time. That most of the time, these choices are the kindest and most community-minded speaks volumes to the guy he is deep down, though he'd justify it all by saying he's crunched the numbers and can mathematically prove why petting the dog is objectively the smart choice. He thinks logic trumps authority or power and will argue with Lich Queen Goddesses if he thinks they're wrong.
He is very direct, forceful and earnestly believes that the ends justify the means. As long as he personally approves of the ends, and will firmly put his foot down if he doesn't. Astarion disapproves. He doesn't trust anything which offers power (tadpoles, devils), but the power you can take is fair game. Hence absorbing forbidden knowledge from a sketchy book bound in humanoid skin. He considers using spells to be no different (except being superior) from using natural talents and has no problem reading or influencing minds in social situations, especially when being deceptive.
As someone who has gone decades without any real friends or doing anything challenging, he's intensely protective of the party. They're quite literally his only friends in the world and represent a little of that person he dreamed of being as a youngster. However, his choices as a leader are based on what he thinks is best for them in the long run, not on what would make them happiest in the moment. He is a cat-herding, nose bridge pinching Your Dad who loves you.
He's a cynical sort, but he's getting better about it with every side quest. The more people call him heroic or say they can count on him, the more he wants to live up to it.
His sexuality can probably be best described as 'just happy to be included.'
Abilities-
Weak baby man. 8 strength. Couldn't slap a lollipop out of a baby's hand.
Genius (his 20 intelligence informs about 2/3 of his personality).
As a wizard he casts spells. Lots of them, because he's obsessed with scrolls. Maybe I'll do a list sometime. He began as a divination specialist, but with the help of Withers diverted into evocation as violence became a bigger part of his life.
He can hold his liquor ridiculously well.
His familiar usually takes the form of a cat, and regardless of the form he calls it The Cat. It is an absolute menace, lands the killing blow on things that should be well out of its weight class and is an unrepentant criminal (due to a glitch getting it interrogated for several crimes that I have canonised).
Notes-
He has kept his real name from the party, just because he reflexively introduces himself as Tav at this point. Anyone, party or otherwise, can play that they are aware it's actually T.A.V and speculate what it stands for.
The tattoo is in honour of his deceased senior apprentice, whose name was Rose.
Open to shipping with all party members, other Tavs, random characters, cross canon, or whatever has chemistry!
